Güner Künier

Born in the Turkish port city of Izmir, Güner Künier moved to northern Germany with her family in the early 1990s, swapping the warm sea for a stiff breeze. She fell in love with music at an early age, dedicated herself to her passion after graduating and moved to Berlin. In an interview with the taz, she explains: »When I first started listening to music, I liked bands like Sonic Youth, Meat Puppets or Hole, all that stuff from the eighties and nineties. That was quite unusual for a young German-Turkish girl at this time. There wasn’t really anybody like me.«

Releasing live videos, music clips, an EP and playing concert after concert, Künier released her debut album ‘Aşk’ (Turkish for ‘love’) in December 2022, laying her voice over old-school and industrial beats, accompanied by lo-fi guitars and synth sounds. Künier sings in both English and Turkish.
