Beate Dietrich
Beate is the project manager of the » MEWEM « mentoring programme for young female, trans and non-binary people in the music industry. The aim of MEWEM is to help ensure that more women, trans and non-binary people help shape the music industry in the long term – including in management positions and as founders – and to make them visible.
She has been on board at the Association of Independent Music Entrepreneurs (VUT) as a member service officer since 2019 and joined VUT Vielfalt, the network for strengthening diversity and equality in the music industry, in 2021. Here she took over the coordination of the German mentoring programme as part of MEWEM Europe (» Mentoring Programme for Women Entrepreneurs in Music Industry «) and was able to draw on the expertise from three previous mentoring programmes in Berlin within the VUT.
Beate knows the music industry thanks to her many years of experience at a label, a booking agency and a publishing house. She quickly realised that there are far too few women, trans and non-binary people here – both on stage and in companies, but especially in management positions.
Beate is currently a mentor herself in the mentoring programme of the Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and has just founded a network of mentoring programmes in the music industry in Germany. She is also a member of the advisory board of the Artists’ Social Security Fund
