Sévérine Kpoti

Sévérine Kpoti is a freelance photographer, concert organiser, cultural activist, and chairwoman of the Slow Club, the self-administrated and non-profit association for necessary cultural efforts in Freiburg. The Slow club joined the LAKS (LandesArbeitsgemeinschaft der Kulturinitiativen und Soziokulturellen Zentren in Baden- Württemberg e.V.) in 2022 and fills an important gap in Freiburg’s cultural landscape in operating free from commercial interests. Its principle is one of participatory grassroots democracy and the accessibility to any interested person that is able to contribute with own ideas and efforts, is a central element of its work. The team coordinates the Slow Club and creates a space where equality onstage, behind the scenes, and among audiences is treated with great importance. Sévérine Kpoti’s photography emphasizes the documentation of social and societal structures and subcultures she encounters. Occasionally, she also finds herself on stage as an author, to narrate her experiences in subcultures from a FLINTA* perspective, which she, along with 49 other authoresses, wrote down in the book »Punk as F*ck«. Her own intersectionality motivates her to put her work and her art in a political context.
