Fola Dada

Fola Dada is a versatile artist and can probably be described as a pioneer when it comes to crossing different genres in song. At her concerts, improvised jazz can be heard alongside reggae and house music and nobody is surprised. Nowadays this is almost normal, but in Fola’s early days it was still unusuThe trained jazz singer started out tap dancing à la Fred Astaire and didn’t stop at vocal coaching for Dieter Bohlen’s DSDS contestants. With bass legend Hellmut Hattler, she is the front woman for his band Hattler and with her own band she realises her love of soul, jazz and reggae music, the debut album Earth was released in 2018, the follow-up album will be released in 2024. With Rainer Tempel she sings song cycles on poems by Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Dickinson, crossing the threshold to classical song singing, and with her Sophisticated Ladies programme she pays traditional homage to the well-known and lesser-known jazz divas.

 

She has a firm place in the German jazz and soul scene and gives concerts in front of enthusiastic audiences together with well-known colleagues in a wide variety of line-ups. For this, she was honoured with the German Jazz Award 2022 in the vocal category.
